In The Ring Two, Rachel must investigate the background of Samara Morgan when her son is diagnosed with a mysterious ailment.In The Ring, Rachel Keller as an investigative reporter is contacted by her sister Ruth to find out the mysterious circumstances that led to Katie's death. Rachel is told by her sister Ruth that she discovered Katie's deformed body inside the closet. Rachel also reveals that Katie passed away from a heart attack. Katie's friends inform Rachel about the legend surrounding the cursed videotape and that Becca Katie's best friend was institutionalized after witnessing Katie's death. Katie's boyfriend and two of her best friendsalso died in mysterious accidents that happened on the same night , at 10:30 PM. Rachel goes to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she stays in Cabin 12. This cabin is the one Katie and her friends stayed in when they saw the tape that was cursed. Rachel stumbles across the tape and starts watching it, following which her phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is identified as Noah Clay as a video analyst by her ex-boyfriend. Rachel learns later that Aidan, Noah's son, saw the tape as Noah was calling her. He tells Rachel that he believes Rachel. Rachel studies the lighthouse that was on the tape and finds out that it is located on Moesko Island, the home of a tragic horse breeder named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape with the curse. When she investigates, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter named Samara who was possessed of the ability to burn frightening images in the minds of individuals, animals and objects. Rachel is forced to leave Anna's widower Richard when she begins to ask questions regarding Samara.
